A History of Leadership and Service
Founded in Miami in 2009 in response to a pressing need for local rail contractors, Thomas Rail Systems is part of the Thomas Group along with Thomas Marine Systems, which has a long, rich history of industry leadership in South Florida and around the globe.
Sue Thomas, President
President Sue Thomas and Vice President John Thomas Jr., both South Florida natives, created today’s Thomas Group in 1989. John’s father, an early pioneer of the marine air-conditioning industry, founded the company’s predecessor a half-century ago and went on to design, build, and install most of the large vessel air conditioning and refrigeration systems in South Florida in the industry’s early days.
Sue’s accounting, legal, and strategy background compliments John Jr.’s wide-ranging technical and project-management experience, gained as a U.S. Navy 3D radar tech; a widely respected marine systems designer, installer, and overhauler; and a rail contractor for nearly a decade.
Thomas Rail Systems is certified as a Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) by the U.S. Department of Transportation, the Florida Department of Transportation, and Miami-Dade County and as a Small Business Enterprise – Goods and Services by Miami-Dade County.
